Chester and Scottie were found as strays by the Woods Humane Society. Catherine Armstrong recalled that the two pups were both nervous when they arrived at the shelter.
Catherine shared that Chester and Scottie always take off whenever someone makes eye contact with them. The Woods Humane Society worker recalled that she and her colleagues could not get the two pups out of their kennel to play in the yard because they did not want to be touched.
Catherine recalled that Chester and Scottie always barked at them whenever they try to put a leash on either of the two dogs. Catherine knew that Chester and Scottie needed a little more love before they could go out on the adoption floor, so she and her colleagues brainstormed how to earn the pups’ trust.
Catherine shared that they started walking by Chester and Scottie’s kennel and tossing some treats to entice them. Catherine said they wanted to be recognized as friends and reward them by whenever they came out of the cage.
Catherine recalled that she and some of her colleagues started doing in and sitting inside Chester and Scottie’s kennel to get them used to their presence. Catherine said they eventually began hand-feeding the pups after one month.
Catherine shared that Scottie eventually came around and approached them after three long months. Catherine said that Scottie became more relaxed with each session, but Chester still hated being touched.
Catherine recalled that it took a while before Chester warmed up to everyone. Catherine shared that they slowly started scratching Chester’s chin while hand-feeding him, and Chester eventually began tolerating being touched.
Catherine shared that Chester warmed up to them after nine months. Catherine recalled that she was rubbing Chester’s chin when she stopped, and the pup suddenly pawed at her to ask for more.
Catherine proudly shared that she could not believe that Chester finally trusted them, and the two dogs eventually started begging to be touched. Catherine said that they would take care of the pups until someone adopts them.
