Mason Bowling suffers from a genetic chromosomal disorder and autism. It is quite challenging, but his family knew that something could really help him. They have always wanted to give him his own service dog that will help him cope with his everyday challenges in life.
Service Dog Calming kid
His mom, Danielle Bowling, knew that a service dog could help Mason develop socially. A gentle dog could help him gain more confidence, keep him calm on any occasion, and could become his loyal best friend. Since a service dog’s training usually includes search and rescue, it will be a big reassurance for the family that Mason won’t get lost as long as he will be with his dog.
There are more benefits to acquiring a service dog, but sadly, they don’t have enough money to buy one. A service dog specially trained to assist people with autism would cost around $25,000. But since the benefit definitely outweighs the cost, the family set a goal and did everything they could to come up with the money to buy Mason a service dog.
Danielle created an online group on Facebook early last year while Mason was still four years old. She tried reaching out to everyone in their community to get them interested in helping Mason get his own service dog. She organized charity events until donations started to trickle in.
It was slow at first until they got the attention of Damon Johnson. The former basketball player organized a charity tournament that brought in thousands of dollars. Coupled with the generous contributions of everyone in the community, the Bowlings have finally met their goal.
Mason became six years old last month, but that was not the only event worth celebrating. He now has autism service dog Kevin, a sweet and gorgeous black Labrador who helps him calm down during stressful situations. Kevin was just in time to witness and assist Mason in his Kindergarten graduation. The adorable and heartwarming photos of them together are everything we need right now.
