When it comes to farm activities and herding animals, border collies are always the first breed to come to mind. However, this adorable corgi from England has defied that stereotype. You see, instead of living the life of royalty like the corgis of Buckingham Palace, this pooch is spending her days herding sheep!
Daphne, the sheepherding corgi in question, was bought by Heather Rutter’s fiancé as a present for her last Christmas 2018. Heather had always wanted to own a corgi, so the moment she met Daphne, all she wanted was to spoil the pup and treat her with the best of life.
Heather and her farmer fiancé lived in the Lake District of England and ran a farm together. On the first time that they brought Daphne to the farm, she was nervous around the quad bikes and the other animals on the field. However, after a few more visits, the fur mom noticed that the corgi started taking an interest in herding.
Every time they allowed Daphne on the field, she would join the working border collies in rounding up the sheep. This happened several more times until the couple decided to teach the corgi the basic commands of sheepherding. It didn’t take long for Daphne to take to the job from there, and she had since been the boss of the farm.
Despite her clear disadvantage from the couple’s four border collies, the corgi never let the bigger dogs overshadow her. Instead, she made up for her deficiencies with large barks, a strong work ethic, and a very energetic disposition.
When Heather discovered her pup’s love for sheepherding, she couldn’t help but be amazed at how dedicated Daphne was to the job. What made the situation more amusing was that the pooch also started to gain popularity in their neighborhood as a one-of-a-kind sheepdog. Watch Daphne’s adorable story here.
