Zach, a dog trainer at Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue, narrates the tale of how a brave fighting dog named Courage overcame all his fears and troubles on a road trip and recovered to almost as good as new.
When Zach first met Courage, he realized they both had a big fight and long battle on their hands. Courage was devastated by his travails and everything was a challenge for him.
Zach aimed to drive Courage back to Los Angeles and get to bond with him en route. His main objective was to get Courage to trust others.
Courage did not have a tongue and therefore couldn’t drink water properly. At a hotel on the way, Zach and Courage bonded well and the trainer fed the dog tasty tidbits in the bathtub.
During the trip, the duo went for walks and explored nature together. After a couple of days, Courage became more comfortable. He would plop his head down on the center console of the car and sleep soundly. Courage would also wiggle on his back and smile sweetly too.
On the road, the brave dog would look out the window and smell things too. By the time they got to Utah, Zach and Courage had become best friends. Courage used to sleep soundly at night and started growing and improving more and more with each passing day.
At the ranch, Courage had almost regained his spunky old self. He taught himself how to drink and started drinking loads of water happily – all without a tongue which is very hard to do. Simply amazing!!!’
Not many people believed in Courage and he had no backers who wanted to bring him up. But Zach says that Courage can teach us a lot about how to overcome a difficult past and move forward with fortitude and bravery.
Fighting dogs have their tongues removed because the other dog might bite it off which can cause heavy bleeding. This shows that dogfighting is a horrendous sport and should ideally be banned in all nations in all forms.
Dogfighting left Courage with many physical and mental wounds and scars and the brave dog overcame all of them with a little love and affection from the caring Zach. This shows that animals, especially dogs, have tremendous strength and resilience.
