Set aside just 10 minutes per day to give a tender maintenance massage to your pooch. Use your palm to gently touch all the body parts of your canine. Give attention and feel all of the layers from the bone, muscle, fat, and skin. Fido will love the petting and extra attention.

With regular massages, you’ll be able to understand your pet’s normal body condition. This will enable you to quickly notice issues such as tight skin, poor fur quality, muscle tension, localized swelling, sensitivity to touches, surface temperature differences, and others.

If these problems are not detected early, they can lead to conditions that need medications, medical care, and sometimes even surgery. Plus, knowing your dog’s normal condition can assist you to offer better information to your massage practitioner, trainer, or vet. In this way, regular massaging can boost Fido’s quality and length of life.

Calming Massage

Loud noises caused by firecrackers, thunderstorms, etc. can cause stress and nervousness in your four-legged companion. To help them relax, you can adoringly massage their body. Place your palm on your pet’s head and make sweeping, long passes down the spine to the tail. Perform this massage several times in a slow manner. You can increase the pressure gradually if Fido likes it. Moreover, you can also use this technique whenever your canine feels restless or hyperactive, or when they are fearful or nervous, for example, during vaccinations or nail trimming.

Warm-Up Massage

Warm-Up Massage

Sportspersons warm-up before they start to play to prepare their body and muscles for the workout. Similarly, a good warm-up massage is essential for active canines that play hard, hike, run, and compete with their pet parents. Start by petting your pooch’s entire body with gentle strokes. Rub the larger muscles (thighs, buttocks, shoulders, and neck) briskly. This method is similar to kneading dough for bread.

Curve your fingers around the canine’s lower legs and gently squeeze. Then, relax your hand grip and gradually move the massage up the legs, squeezing lightly as you continue. Finally, stimulate the nerves by petting across the whole body.
